Dean Martin: Everybody Loves Somebody (1964)

Today is Valentine's Day, and there's no better way to celebrate it than listening to one of my all-time favorite artists, the King of Cool, Dean Martin. We all know that he was the king of romantic music with his songs that were memorable and romantic, like his number 1 hit, "Everybody Loves Somebody," back in 1964. It was written in 1947 by Irving Taylor and pianist Ken Lane and made famous by Dean Martin himself, who recorded and released his version 62 years ago.

This song is a classic ballad that speaks to the universal experience of falling in love. The lyrics convey a sense of inevitability and destiny in romance, suggesting that everyone will find love at some point in their lives. The phrase 'Everybody loves somebody sometime' emphasizes the idea that love is not just a possibility, but a certainty that awaits each person.

It also touches on the transformative power of love. The singer expresses a personal revelation, where a kiss ignites the realization that the moment of finding love has arrived. This moment of clarity is described as both joyous and fated, with the singer feeling that their heart has guided them to the right place. The repetition of 'my sometime is now' and 'my someplace is here' reinforces the idea that love is not only destined but also timely and specific to the individual's experience.

Dean Martin's smooth and emotive delivery adds a layer of depth to the song, making it a timeless piece that resonates with listeners. The lyrics suggest that love is worth the wait, and when it arrives, it justifies all the longing and dreaming. The song's message is one of hope and patience, assuring that love will come to those who wait for their 'someone like you.' It's a celebration of love's arrival and the fulfillment it brings to life.

Even though I wasn't born yet when he was in show business, and even though I was born 2 years before he died, I have always admired the King of Cool. All artists have their own special talent, but none of them will ever match the reign of Dean Martin.
